But despite their high visibility, the cut-outs are for the benefit of workers, not motorists.
An RMS spokesperson said the cut-outs were used to indicate to workers where sensitive monitoring equipment is located.
"The yellow worker cut-outs along the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade project indicate an unsafe work zone or the possible presence of equipment in the area to be avoided," the spokesperson said.
"Operators on work sites are trained to be aware of pedestrians and workers on site and adhere to certain procedures and protocols.
"The cut outs are more visible than a standard sign and … encourage operators take to the same level of care and use the same safety procedures as they would around workers and pedestrians."
