The traffic lights are going red for no apparent reason.

Frustration has been building among local truckies, who would like to see the fault fixed.

"It's ridiculous, we're stopping for nothing," Soil Co truckie Mick Kenny said.

"Not to mention, the lights at the Moss Street intersection change on the spur of a moment, I've seen a few cars run it and get flashed."

Mr Kenny and a few of his colleagues raised the matter of the faulty traffic light triggers with the Roads and Maritime Services several months ago.

When asked the RMS told the South Coast Register it is a Shoalhaven City Council matter.

"Road damage on Plunkett and Moss streets has impacted the detectors," a RMS spokesperson said.

"As these streets are local roads, repairs and resurfacing are not the responsibility of Roads and Maritime.

"Once these repairs are completed, Roads and Maritime will carry out repairs to the detectors."

The Register alerted council to the situation.

At this stage, council has no plans to rectify it.

"Currently the Plunkett Street and Moss Street repairs and resurfacing are not on our annual works programs for the 2018/2019 financial year, however if the repairs or resurfacing need to be brought forward then this can be re-evaluated if considered more urgent," a council spokesperson said.

"In past circumstances in the Nowra CBD where a similar problem had been identified to council we have delivered a coordinated approach to rectify the situation. An example of this situation is at Kinghorne and Plunkett street intersection where traffic light loop detectors were installed at the intersection in conjunction with resurfacing activities."

The RMS added they have adjusted the lights to help reduce delays and will continue to monitor the intersections.

Truckies, who have not noticed any difference since adjustments were made, would like council to repair the damaged sections of the roads as soon as possible.
