Just commit to rail
Regardless of your politics, the reality is that you only need to hear a candidate speak to gauge how effective they’d be as an elected representative. If Labor’s candidate for the South Coast, Annette Alldrick is any indicator based on her recent interview on ABC Illawarra, the ALP might save themselves the embarrassment and punt her now.

In attacking the Members for Kiama and South Coast regarding the duplication and electrification of the rail line between Kiama and Bombaderry, Ms Alldrick was asked if she’d spoken to the shadow treasurer to lobby for such a commitment should Labor win the upcoming election. After all, surely one wouldn’t be so foolish as to attack the government for not investing in the rail line, if her own party wasn’t prepared to make a pre-election promise to do the same?
Her response was along the lines of, “Well, we’re going through all our requests, our spending requests, so I’ve got to wait, so I’m waiting. Obviously I’m not in a position to promise that we’ll do it at the moment.” Seriously? The election date isn’t a surprise; we’ve known about it for four years!
So if it’s such an important infrastructure project for Annette Alldrick and the Labor Party, what are you waiting for? Commit to it! And if you’re not prepared to do so, don’t criticise others for taking the same stance.
Politicians like Ms Alldrick clearly do not realise the electorate is sick of the party bickering, the relentless criticism of each other’s policies, and most of all, the sheer hypocrisy of their petty behaviours. If this is any indication, the only thing dumber than Labor criticising the government for something they’re not prepared to commit to themselves, would be to vote for them on March 23.

Tri great for business
What a brilliant event! I was competing on one of the Saturday races as part of the Big Husky Weekend of Triathlon. Such a sensational vibe about the place.
I know there has been so much condemnation amongst Husky businesses, but it has to be said, this event is growing your local destination - essentially doing all your marketing for you. Dynamic local businesses like Pilgrim's Cafe had set up a mobile store alongside other sponsors tents profit from selling coffee's and food as did many other local businesses. You would only have to ask.
It would be great to hear more encouraging words shared by local businesses about events like Big Husky really pushing the location as a destination. Collaboration in the businesses sense is perhaps something we don't fully understand in Australia. Seeing businesses that bring great events to a regional location benefits all businesses. We need more of it.
Bring on the great sporting, art and music events that subscribe to collaboration with local businesses.

Parachute hypocrisy
Further to Bill Easter's comment re Warren Mundine being parachuted in to Gilmore, it's odd how Scott Morrison speaks so highly of the rank and file ballots until they deliver a result he doesn't like.
The best example is his own drubbing when parachuted in to his now electorate of Cook..He lost 84 to eight.
Oh dear, quick, someone ring head office, only they really know a candidates worth. Those silly members have no idea. What a shameless hypocrite this man is.
