Shane Howard, the former frontman of iconic Australian band Goanna, will perform at Shoalhaven Heads to help raise funds for A Taste of Paradise.
Tim and Andy Francis’ permaculture and organic farm, between Berry and Gerringong, has helped hundreds of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Mr Howard has performed for former South African President Nelson Mandela and appeared as a guest artist with Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Jackson Browne, James Taylor and Carole King.
Fundraising Shoalhaven is staging the May 10 charity night to help Tim and Andy Francis’ permaculture and organic farm continue its work with children aged five to 18.
The farm is between Berry and Gerringong, and runs day programs for children referred by government child welfare workers and welfare agencies.
“Many of the young people that come to our farm have become disillusioned with life," said Tim Francis.
"They’ve been let down by the people and authorities who are meant to help them.
“Through interacting with our animals, the natural environment and through the therapeutic benefit of seeing results from your own work, they begin to find their place in the world and realise that they can determine their own future.”
Karina Seyffer from Fundraising Shoalhaven said the organisation was delighted to be able to assist A Taste of Paradise by bringing an artist of Howard’s stature to Coolangatta Estate.
“This is a really worthwhile organisation that is doing great work with disadvantaged young people in our community," Ms Seyffer said.
"The charity doesn’t receive direct government funding, and really needs additional funds to help them continue.
“We are very grateful to Coolangatta Estate for providing such a great venue, and really hope that the people rally to help A Taste of Paradise by coming to the show.”
Tickets are $40 (show only) and there is a dinner and show package at $100 per person, which includes priority seating.
