Thinking about drink or drug driving in the Shoalhaven, you will get caught. That is the message from South Coast Police District, with officers joining colleagues from across the state in the three-day, Operation Drink Drive 1. Officers across the district will be out in force from midnight Thursday, February 14 until midnight Sunday, February 17. Officer in charge of Nowra Police Station, Inspector Ray Stynes said the operation would target not just impaired drivers but all traffic related offences. “This operation is a targeted effort to reduce road trauma,” Inspector Stynes said. He said Drink Drive 1 follows on from operations conducted throughout the summer months. “It will be in a similar vein,” Inspector Stynes said. “All roads within the district will be targeted, not just the main highways and thoroughfares. “Police will be strategically tasked, both through traffic and crime intelligence, to be best placed in hot spot areas throughout the district.” He said all police on duty over the weekend would participate in the operation. “Each and every police vehicle has the capability to undertake both random breath and drug testing,” he said.
