An act of revenge
There can be no doubt Jo Gash’s betrayal of the Liberal Party and her support for the National Party candidate is breathtaking, based solely on revenge over the way Ann was treated at the last FEC meeting, and a slap in the face to every conservative member in Gilmore who supported and worked so hard to support both her and Ann .

It reminded me of a quote I once read by a member who is now deceased, words to the effect that in Gilmore, it’s not a matter of left and right factions of the Liberal Party, it’s a matter of those to whom Jo Gash has been rude to and those to whom she hasn’t been rude to yet. I am sure there are many in the Liberal Party who would agree those words today have come true .
With the words of Scott Scott Morrison still ringing in our ears – “We don’t reward bullies” – referring to Grant Schultz, it will be interesting to see if the Liberal Party follow his instructions .

Fisheries under threat
After reading about tourists and locals clashing at Lake Illawarra over cockle poaching, I started to fume.
To have people continually rape our seashores, as they have done in the countries from which they have travelled, makes me want to do something about it. I don't want future generations asking why we didn't stop it from happening.
I recently spoke to Fisheries and they are as upset as everyone else. The problem is the lack of rangers available to patrol the amount of coastline and inland waterways that we have in this country.
A few years back I checked on just how many rangers were available for the Shoalhaven, and from memory, it was only a couple.
I suggested Fisheries think about asking for volunteers, not to arrest people, but to obtain information, such as photos of those abusing the system as well as any boat or car registration number, etc. All that would be needed, is some form of ID that states that you are a volunteer with fisheries and that you will be passing the information onto that department. I'm sure that there would be no end of volunteers.

Support for pill testing
I believe that, to the best of my knowledge, that I am the only registered addiction medicine specialist working consistently in the area between Wollongong and the Victorian border. This is not a boast, but rather a sad statement underlying the lack of interest and services in in this area of medicine along the South Coast.
However, it is also emphasises the problem when I say that I am very close to the end of my career after 51 years as a doctor with about 35 years in this particular specialty.
I have major difficulties accepting the comments of Dr K-S Lim, a representative of a medico-political organisation, on clinical matters which I see as outside his remit. I am not aware he is involved in addiction, substance use disorders or any related matters other than in the most general sense.
If I am wrong, I resile to that extent but respectfully say that I disagree with his views, which are out of step with most in this field of medicine. While I could not and would not disagree with his comments about alcohol, that is not the point of the discussion.
My admittedly simplistic approach is just this - can any harm come out of drug testing as opposed to the probability or even possibility that it could achieve some good?
In the same vein and for the same reason, I strongly disagree with the present stance of our Premier for exactly the same reasons.
While I actually understand governments do and must put a dollar on human life, (Why not lights at every intersection where they has been a fatal accident?) when the cost is to be covered by the 'user pays' umbrella, where is the downside?
