Pat Cummins, Usman Khawaja and Kurtis Patterson have all been included in the squad for Saturday’s fixture at Manuka Oval while Gilkes returns from injury having made a half century in his debut match against the Scorchers.
“I always really enjoy coming back to Thunder," said Khawaja.
"I was here last year for the Manuka game, unfortunately I didn’t get to play but it’s always great coming to Canberra and it’s a beautiful ground here too.”
“It’s always nice to play at Manuka, the crowd really comes out and we’re expecting a pretty good crowd there tomorrow so hopefully we can get the win. It’s kind of like our second home ground so hoping to have a good result.
“I’ve watched almost every game I reckon. I think we’ve played pretty good. I think we’ve had some really good games and some not so good games but that’s just how it happens in Big Bash cricket.
"Overall I think the guys have put up some really good performances. I mean we’re the only team that’s scored hundreds with Watto and Ferg and guys like Fawad are bowling beautifully.
"I think we’ve probably played better than what the results have shown.”
Arjun Nair, Jono Cook, Baxter Holt and Jason Sangha all miss out from the squad that played the Sydney Sixers last weekend.
