NSW Labor leader Michael Daley has pledged to match the government’s election promise for a $434 million upgrade to Shoalhaven Hospital.

Mr Daley foreshadowed an announcement while addressing the party faithful at the Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre on Tuesday evening along with federal Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.
“We will match the government’s commitment of $434 million,” he told the 400-strong gathering.
“[There is] no use building a hospital and leaving wards closed and rooms empty because you don’t have the staff to fill it.
“We will do nurse-to-patient ratios in the regions so there’ll be more nurses and more staff – more [Health Services Union] members as well.”
Mr Daley said Labor would also hire 250 more security guards to keep the state’s hospitals and staff safe.
Before the forum got under way, Mr Shorten told the media he would work with the NSW and current federal governments towards upgrading the Princes Highway south of Nowra.
“I get that this is an important piece of road. I get that it’s overdue for more investment.
“We will work not only with the state government but I’ll work with the current government,” he said.
“My transport spokesperson Anthony Albanese has signed a pledge with along with the government’s transport spokesperson. Let’s work on this together. Roads should not be a political football.”
