After winning two of their first three matches, on the opening two days of the carnival, Engelbrecht’s Comets lost to Queensland in game four.
Despite winning the toss, the Comets sent their northern rival to the crease, where they made 6/180, with Engelbrecht, who also plays for the St George District Cricket Club, finishing with 0/22.
In reply, Engelbrecht could only muster three, was his ACT/NSW Country finished at 8/169 from their 20 overs, 12 runs short of victory – handing them their second loss to Queensland in three days.
But once again, the Comets bounced back to win their next two fixtures.
Firstly, against NSW Metro, 13 not out from Engelbrecht helped the Comets chase down their target (4/136 to 6/135) with four balls to spare.
With the white ball, Engelbrecht bowled three overs and finished with 0/27.
In the final game of their T20 carnival in Blacktown, the Comets defeated the Cricket Australia under 19s team (9/169 to 8/165) – with Engelbrecht taking 1/39 and making one run.
Engelbrecht‘s Comets now have two four-day matches left in the Futures League season, with the next being against Tasmania from February 11-14 at Phillip Oval.
