There have been a series of delays on the road, with school holidays and the Australia Day long weekend drawing to a close.
Motorists heading north through Nowra will require a strong dose of patience, Live Traffic has reported a 7km traffic queue.
Traffic through Nowra has been bumper to bumper from the Shoalhaven River Bridge to Hillcrest Avenue at South Nowra.
According to Google Maps, it is quicker to travel through the Nowra CBD than to continue along the highway, taking the Kinghorne Street exit, and entering back onto the highway via Bridge Road.
In Bomaderry, northbound traffic has been thick since 9.30am.
Drivers heading to Gerringong and further north will save time by turning right at Bolong Road and taking the coastal route - traffic is heavy through Bomaderry and Meroo Meadow.
No accidents have been reported.
Further south, motorists driving through Milton and Ulladulla have been queued for 8km according to Live Traffic.
