He delivered a heart-felt speech at Jelly Bean Park in Nowra on Tuesday at 5pm.
“My family’s had a long association with the Liberal Party which it served with integrity and loyalty,” he said.
“Today that ended.
“I’ve resigned from the Liberal Party this afternoon.
“I can no longer be a member of a party that does not support democracy or act with integrity.
“The Prime Minister states that he believes in a fair go. He has not given me that.
“I’ve dedicated much of my service as a police officer and as a UN peacekeeper. My wife Rebecca and I moved here, after giving close to 50 years between us in policing. Beck grew up here, and it is here that we wanted to raise our children.
“We are both passionate about our community and the people of Gilmore. This is why I step forward. And it’s why I won’t be stepping back.
“I believe the people of Gilmore need a strong voice, someone who will fight for them and them alone, someone who answers only to them. Not to a union or to a party that doesn’t know or care who they are. This is why I, as a resident of the area, intend to run as an independent.
“I will continue to fight for the people of Gilmore because this is my home, too, and I want to make it better for my kids, and yours, and for my mum and my dad who has passed away, and yours. And of course for my future and yours.”
