Club manager, Janie Hamilton, has numerous programs she wants to start this year and is excited about setting up a parkour activity aimed at getting more youths active.
“We will be offering drama classes and introducing a parkour program,” she said.
“Parkour, in a nutshell, is basically racing over obstacles as fast and as creatively as you can - you get to fling your body around in all sorts of creative ways.
“All sort of things - tyres or park benches - are going to be used to build the course and you also go over and under logs and bars.”
It will cater for a wide age group.
“We will gauge what ages come in and then set the classes as some of the course, because of the way we are going to build it, will be more difficult as you go along,” she said
Janie said the parents could use the NSW Government's Creative Kids voucher to help meet small fee involved with the program.
Parents can go onto the Service NSW website which entitles them to $100 to use this year at a registered service provider like the Nowra PCYC.
The PCYC is registered for both active and creative kids programs
Active kids started last year and creative kids start in 2019.
Given parkour sessions will cost about $5 the active and creative scheme is great value.
The club manager hopes to start the program next term and is looking for support from the community to get it running.
“The idea now is to work with the community to help build it,” she said.
“When school goes back we will contact a couple of the high schools to see if their woodwork and technology students would like to come out and help us construct the obstacles.
“We also want to approach local businesses to ask for sponsorship to supply the materials.
“We really would like community involvement.”
The manager said the businesses would get the naming rights of the obstacles they sponsor to build.
She said it was a nice way to invest in a program aimed at helping young people.
People can also donate materials, offer ideas or labour for the parkour course.

Janie started as manager in October last year.
“I like the role and it’s a challenge because there's a lot of things we are trying to introduce and we are trying to freshen the place up,” she said.
“We are trying to get a lot more people in and involved.”
Janie said they are looking at getting renovations done and they are doing up their boxing section by making it bigger with a multi-functional fitness area
“We want to let more people know what we have and what we are about,” she said.
The club will soon be offering a health program for mothers.
