Well, that is an interesting question and something the South Coast Register’s Damian McGill has been asking himself a lot this season.
He noted the reduction of teams playing first grade, was surprised when some of the lower grade teams struggled to get players just weeks into the season and perhaps what stumped him the most was when he found out the region does not have an under 16s competition.
The Register journalist, who also takes the majority of junior and senior cricket photos on a Saturday, also noticed that some players, reluctantly, are going up a grade or two to help out their clubs.
He decided to look into the issue.
Damian interviewed the senior president, the junior president, a passionate cricket tragic, has an extremely interesting piece from a club representative and will also write a comment piece on the state of local cricket.
Now we must stress that cricket in the local area is not going to die, but it does need some nurturing.
The first online piece will be rolled on on Monday, January 14.
