SHOALHAVEN Ex-Servicemens have clinched back-to-back Shoalhaven Cricket first grade one-day premierships, after a gutsy batting performance at Hayden Drexel Oval on Saturday.
The visitors won the toss and elected to bat first in the decider.
On the back of a strong 42 from Brad Field, United went on to post 111 from their 33.5 overs.
With the white ball, Trevor Thomason again proved why he is a big game player, taking 3/22 from his 7.5 overs.
Other wicket takers for Ex-Servos were Nate Jones (2/20), Justin Ganderton (2/22), Mathew Ganderton (2/23) and Nathan Tyrrell (1/10).
Despite the total seeming quite simple, the run chase was anything but for the hosts, thanks to the sharp bowling by the United bowlers.
Chris Bramley (six) was the first to fall, before captain Daniel Gleeson (zero), Blake Munilla (seven), Trevor Thomason (seven), Nathan Tyrrell (six) and Nathan Austin (eight) all fell in quick succession – to leave Ex-Servos reeling at 6/38.
But a gritty 43 not out and 22 not out from Sam Bagnall (man of the match) and Brandon Booth respectively saw the stabilise and reach the target (6/116) in the 26th over – to secure the club’s second straight one-day title.
For the visitors, Matt Shea was the pick of the seamers, with four wickets, while Aaron Wester and George Walker took one each in the loss.
