This time Jason Tran of the Parramatta Cycling Club took the win in a mass sprint finish ahead of Robbie Hacker (Penrith CC) and Johns in third position.
Nowra Velo Club’s Jade Colligan made the trip to Eastern Creek for this criterium series and was placed in the same A2 event with Johns.
Colligan rode an aggressive race and spent some time in solo breakaway attempts during the event.
After 40 minutes of racing the sprinters came to the fore in the hectic dash to the like with 34 riders in the group.
Jade managed to cross the line in 10th position as she found it difficult to match the big men in a 70kmh dash to the line.
Jade was awarded the prize for first female in this race that had an average speed of 42kmh.
Next Tuesday will be the final program of 2018 for the Marconi Cycling Club’s criterium racing.
Racing on the Eastern Creek Motorway will resume early in 2019.
Nick Johns also raced with the Bankstown Sports Cycling Club on the Dunc Gray velodrome as he learns the fine art of track racing on the single gear and with a high cadence.
Johns raced in scratch races, sprint and motor paced events.
On the local Nowra Velo Club scene with no racing on the program until the New Year there have been some road training days that have included plenty on mountain climbing.
Next Sunday the NVC has plans for a criterium coaching morning at the Albatross Aviation Tech Park starting at 8am.
The emphasis will be on the new young club members and some of the older people who have a need and desire to improve their race positioning.
The Nowra Velo Club is the home of cycle racing in the Shoalhaven district. New members are always welcome and regular rides are run that cater for most levels of interest. Coaching is available by contacting the club.
