The school of arts committee recently received funding from the Veolia Mulwaree Trust, which will enable them to construct brand new accessible toilet facilities, ensuring far more inclusive access for all who attend events in the future.
Tomerong School of Arts Incorporated President, Bev Stewart, said the committee has been searching for a way to improve the hall’s accessibility for some time.
“We were so excited to hear that our grant application to the Veolia Mulwaree Trust was successful,” she said.
“The funds from the trust will be added to funds raised by the committee and we are hopeful we can start construction early next year.”
The cheque was presented to a committee representative by members of the Veolia Mulwaree Trust at a presentation in Goulburn in November.
The Tomerong School of Arts property, originally purchased and built by donations, voluntary labour and fundraising activities, was opened in 1926.
It’s a fully community owned and managed asset.
The new facilities will ensure that everybody, including any person with a temporary or permanent mobility difficulty, any frail older person, or any parent of young children, will be able to easily access all of the hall’s facilities when attending any of the hall’s numerous activities and events.
“All residents of, and visitors to, the Tomerong area have a right to equitable access, regardless of any mobility issues,” Bev said.
Many Shoalhaven residents are familiar with the wonderful concerts and shows held at the hall.
The hall is also a frequently used venue for community celebrations, information evenings, advocacy groups, the Tomerong markets and a variety of healthy lifestyle programs.
The committee received strong support for the grant application from the hall users and the committee members would like to express their gratitude for this support.
The hall committee is grateful to the Veolia Mulwaree Trust for providing funds for the new accessible toilet facilities, thereby ensuring that local events are fully inclusive and equitable.
