Illawarra On Pointe Productions (IOP) will present their concert orchestra in Fantastic Orchestral Beasts at the Berry School of Arts next month.
It's the commissioning and premiering of a new symphonic work by a local emerging artistic, Jeremy Boulton that makes this concert additionally special.
Jeremy, 20, is well known for staring in the lead roles for local musical productions including The Pirates of Penzance, The King and I, Legally Blonde and Hairspray.
Jeremy was a former recipient of the Opera Australia Student Scholarship, graduate of the prestigious Talent Development Project and featured artist in Schools Spectacular.
At the age of 20, Jeremy has already composed soundtracks for cinematic releases including Absence (Best Film, Martini Awards 2017), and Markstery. Jeremy’s other work includes scoring for stage productions of The Tempest, Blood Wedding and Ash Girl as well as orchestrations for Southern Stars.
At the end of 2018 IOP approached Jeremy to write a short orchestral piece about the legend of the Australia Drop Bear or better known to locals as the Koala for their magical and mythological concert Fantastic Orchestral Beasts.
IOP Artistic Director Ryley Gillen said it was important to foster talent and provide opportunities for emerging artists.
“Commissioning a work is not just for our concert orchestra but also for the composer's portfolio and the wider community who can enjoy unique orchestral pieces into the future,” he said.
“We saw the benefits of creating these works after commissioning Sydney composer Will Yaxley for our 2018 ballet Peter Pan which enabled us to perform an original ballet adaptation on a familiar classic with eighty local dancers, forty local musicians and forty singers.
“Jeremy's short symphonic piece encompasses everything that is at the heart of the people of the Shoalhaven it's moody, quirky and knows how to poke fun at itself".
Founded in 2014 IOP is an orchestral and theatrical production company that provides a platform for aspiring musicians, ballet dancers, actors and those who work in all other facets of theatre.
IOP stages one major production a year, run various orchestral concerts, are hired out to various theatre companies to enhance their performances and complete a regional NSW school tour educating students about orchestral instruments and the creative arts.
In 2019 IOP celebrates turning five with Fantastic Orchestral Beasts with performances non Saturday 19 January 7pm at the Berry School of Arts and Sunday 20 January 1pm at the Bowral Memorial Hall.
Tickets are $30 for Adults, $25 for Concession and free for children under 10 and are available for purchase at www.illawarraonpointe.com.au
