The bowlers were out to take wickets and the batsmen all wanted to pile on the runs.
The standard of play was brilliant and here is a rundown of Saturday’s play.
Under 14s
The chance for a prolonged stint in the middle and a few more overs to bowl, as two-day matches started, greeted the under 14s players on Saturday.
Club-mates Berry Shoalhaven Heads Blacks and Berry Shoalhaven Heads Whites are in the middle of a great game at Zealand Oval (East).
The Blacks won the toss, elected to bat and made 171 runs in their innings.
Tom Fletcher and Jarrod Griffith led the way with the bat for the Blacks.
Tom smashed 65 runs with eight boundaries and Jarrod belted 46 runs with three boundaries.
Jack Turner led the way with the ball for the Whites with three wickets, while Hudson Boatswain and Owen Douglas got two each.
The match continues on Saturday.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Green v Ulladulla United
A brilliant century from Ulladulla United’s Lachlan Barr, against Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Green, would have been great to watch.
Lachlan had the ball going to all parts of the Lyrebird Sports Ground’s field and he remained not out on 111 runs.
His century included 12 boundaries and three sixes.
Tara Rudd, 27, Ryan Gilkes, 27, and Jay Ramsden, 20, helped United post its impressive 226 run first innings total.
Matthew Spinks, Oliver Ellery and Lachlan Davis were strong with the ball for the Greens and took two wickets apiece.
The Greens’ run chase starts on Saturday.
Bay and Basin v Bomaderry
Bay and Basin are in a sound position after day one of its match against Bomaderry at Francis Ryan Sports Ground.
The Basin elected to bat first and would have been happy with its 7/175 first innings score.
Ryan Malecki caught the eye with his 50 runs which included five boundaries, while Daniel Hylton-Cummins, 23, Joah Mason, 23, and Mitchell Ward, 20, had productive stints in the middle.
Bomaderry shared the wicket-taking duties around and the match continues on Saturday.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen's Gold v North Nowra Cambewarra
The Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen's Gold and North Nowra Cambewarra match at Lyrebird Sports Ground (number two) is nicely positioned.
The Golds batted first, made 113 runs and at stumps, Norths were 4/70.
Nash Connell and Matthew Higham produced a mirror-like innings for the Golds.
They both made 31 runs with five boundaries.
Kieran Morris and Lucas Zerafa took two wickets apiece for Norths.
Benjamin Royston got Norths off to a good start with 25 runs with three boundaries and the match continues on Saturday.
Under 12s
An impressive effort with the bat from Tobias Eyland put Berry Shoalhaven Heads Whites in a match-winning position against Bomaderry at Zealand Oval (west).
Tobias made 79 runs, with 10 boundaries, and as a result, the Whites posted 7/220.
Bomaderry, in reply, made 6/101.
Hamish Martin, 19, Oscar Simister, 17, and Harrison Turner, 15, also got amongst the runs for the Whites.
Jack Woods took two wickets for Bomaderry.
Beau Lynch with 44 runs, which included two boundaries, tried to guide Bomaderry home.
Oscar capped off a good game for the Whites by taking two wickets.
North Nowra Cambewarra v Ulladulla United
A solid effort with the bat put North Nowra Cambewarra in a match-winning position against Ulladulla United at Bernie Regan Oval.
Norths batted first, made 143 and then dismissed United for 91 runs.
Thomas Duncan was in great form for the bat and his 30 runs was an impressive effort.
Harrison Wood, 16, Cody McVey, 11, and Cooper Luke, 10, helped Norths compile its match-winning score.
Ken Owens and Solomon Fairs were sharp with the ball for United and bagged two wickets apiece.
Harrison Fairs was looking good for United and reached 27 runs before he ran out of partners.
Ken was able to put 13 runs on the board before he was dismissed.
Katie Martin was the star of the Norths’ attack with three wickets, while Harrison backed up his effort with the bat by taking two wickets.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s v Bay and Basin
Bay and Basin’s Henry Mackay was not in a mood to run between wickets when he led his team to victory against Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen’s Club at the Added Area.
Henry smashed 14 boundaries on his way to making 77 runs for the Basin.
The Basin went on to make 199 runs in its first innings and then restricted Ex-Servos to 8/62.
Oliver Driscoll also batted well for the Basin and his 55 runs were highlighted by eight boundaries.
Linford Breeze was the most successful Ex-Servos bowler with two wickets.
Ex-Servos found runs hard to come by and Max Barbouttis with nine runs did the best.
Daniel Sim, Henry and Max Sim were rewarded for their great bowling with two wickets hauls.
Modified under 11s
The non-competition under 11s is not about winning or losing but is about teaching youngsters all about cricket.
Some good individual efforts were recorded on Saturday.
