The final singing day for the year will be held Friday, December 14 at the Senior Citizens’ Centre, just up the laneway at 33 Berry Street, near the Roxy Cinema.
The group has been singing – just for the joy of singing – for the past year.
It has recorded an amazing number of attendances. There has already been more than 500 sessions counted and 115 participants have taken part in the initiative.
It includes a growing number of volunteer helpers who seem to enjoy the singing as much as the taking around of cups of tea, and biscuits.
Led by musical director Julie Emery, Happy Sounds start at around 10:15-10:30am on Friday mornings.
They sing until 12pm, to allow people to get home in time for lunch.
Many attendees come from nearby Aged Care facilities, some are brought by their carers or just friends, but all come equipped with various voices but lots of enthusiasm.
Large print song books are provided, and the group is preparing for a bumper final day on Friday, December 14.
Christmas cake, lots of tinsel, special food and drinks will be provided, so come along and see how enjoyable it is just to sing, especially carols.
The group will continue into the New Year and will start start again on Friday, January 18, with bigger and better new song books and hopefully more newcomers.
It’s not a choir – they just love to sing, enjoying the new friendships that such a group provides.
Anyone feeling a bit lonely, isolated, in need of a chat is most welcome.
Transport can sometimes be arranged for those that need it.
