In the Ray White Challenge Bomaderry were the most successful team closely followed by Huskisson, in the men’s section it was Ex Servo’s first and Greenwell Point second and the women’s section saw Huskisson first and Bomaderry second. The prize pool saw Bomaderry, Greenwell Point and Huskisson each with $525 share most of Ray Whites sponsorship money.
The Bowls NSW Challenge saw two full greens on Saturday with teams coming from Engadine, St Georges Basin, Ashfield, Telarah, Corrimal Orb, Condobolin, Ourimbah and Moorfield, the eventual winners of the two groups going through to the finals were St Georges Basin and Moorfield. On the Sunday at Warilla, Moorfield became state champions winning 2/1 in the final, a big thankyou to Daniel for all his efforts in organising the two events.

Basin Men
Back on Saturday 17th November Bowls NSW commenced the Club Challenge for 2018. Over 300 teams entered the various 7 divisions. The Basin entered 2 silver divisions and 1 blue division. Our silver division teams won through to the regional finals but unfortunately one of our teams knocked out the other and the winners were eventually beaten by the state runners-up Wiseman Park.
Our blue division won their section at The Basin on the first Saturday but were narrowly defeated in the regional final at Shoalhaven Heads on the Sunday. Later that week our club was informed that due to a late withdrawal our blue division team had a reprieve and were called up as the next best performed team to compete in the state finals on Saturday 8th December at Bomaderry Bowling Club.
On Saturday the 8th The Basin has drawn to play Ashfield who they beat 2 rinks to 1, Engadine who they lost 3 rinks to 0 but finished strongly to beat Telarah 3 to 0. This was enough to get them through to the state final to be played at Warilla Bowling Club on Sunday 9th against last year’s runners up Moorefield Bowling Club from southern Sydney.
In a cliffhanger of a final The Basin won the singles but heartbreakingly lost the pairs and triples by 2 shots each game with the last bowls in both the pairs and triples. So close but yet so far.
The players involved were Bruce Goldsmith (singles) Craig Gardner & John Dunn (pairs) and Michael Sheridan, Don MacKenzie & Arnie Rhoden (triples). Congratulations to our blue division team in a remarkable effort in an extremely tough event. You did yourselves but most importantly your club proud.
Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men
This was Presentation week. Wednesday saw a grey, overcast sky but no wind giving us perfect conditions for bowling. The Grand Final of the Club Minor Pairs was battled out as well as three games of Social Triples and two of Pairs. Saturday was our Club Presentation Day
Wednesday 5th December was an overcast day with a couple of spits of rain. 30 bowlers braced the Green.
Rink 8 saw a Triples game where Paul Takac, Ian Abberley and Dooley Gould played some fabulous bowls to win by 24 to 16 shots
Rink 9 held the game of the week. John Mac and Allan Furniss bounded out of the start and were leading by 13 to 1 after the 6th end. Slowly, end after 1 shot end, Roy Cartledge and Jim Jameison dragged themselves back into the game until after the 15th end they were only 6 shots behind at 9 to 15. John and Allan again flexed their skills and lengthened the lead by another 3 over the next 2 ends.
Home for sure until a disastrous laps of concentration on their part and absolutely the best bowling ever seen, allowed Roy and Jim to take the lead, yes you read correctly, take the lead with a 6 shot end followed by a 4 shot end and the scores were now in their favour by 19 to 18 shots on the 19th end. What a reversal! John and Allan won the penultimate end by a shot to level the scores at 19 apiece. Who would keep their nerve on the last end? John Mac and Allan Furniss won the end and the game by 1 shot to haul home the ham at 20 shots to19.
Rink 10 This was the Club Minor Pairs Final. Tommy Smith and Peter Smith got away to a great start only to see Steve Hollington and Tony Mikus catch them up and pass them at 9 shots to 8 on the 13th end. From this point forward Tommy and Peter were never in the hunt and Steve Hollington and Tony Mikus kept their concentration and play outstanding bowls to be crowned the 2018 Club Minor Pairs Champions by 18 shots to 12. All hail the new Club Champions, Stephen and Tony!
Rink 12 Matthew Rosina, John Newbold and Dave Milne rolled some wonderful bowls to trounce their opposition by 27 to 14 shots.
Rink 13 observed a close Pairs game. Paul Goddard and Ray Solway were in the zone and bowled some fabulous ends for a well-earned win by 19 shots to 15.
Rink 14 The last game of the day witnessed another tough struggle that saw Les Stuart, David Solomon and Graham Mills triumph by just 25 to 23 shots.

LATEST UPDATE ..... After 1 draw & 2 losses the dream/nightmare team of Gary, Barry, Larry Melleuish & Trevor (Maestro) McGuire didn't quite handle the pressure, they have decided to swap positions and give it one more go. Not a good sign was the sad sight of Trevor leaving early after play and leaving Gary alone at the table looking quite shaken.
PRESENTATION DAY 9TH DECEMBER 2018
Congratulations to Jimmy Hibbert who was presented with Life Membership of Culburra Beach Men's Bowling Club. He was presented with the award by another life member, Phil Limbeck.
Most popular winners of the day were Danny Nash & Brendon Hughes (Minor Pairs Winners). Congratulations also to Craig McGale with 3 titles (Major Singles, Major Pairs and Triples).
Berry Men
Weather conditions appear to be having an effect on attendance at social bowls.
Wednesday 5th saw three games of pairs played and on Saturday 8th there were insufficient starters. The pairs games on Wednesday saw the match between Mick Vassallo and Barry Dunn against Peter Haddon and Steve Kellett a draw on four ends but the scoring six shots on the last two ends gave victory to Peter and Steve.
Despite taking an early lead Tom Froggatt and Lindsay McNamara found consistent scoring from end four give their game to Brian Povey and Nick Nicholls. The third match found Brian Vickary and Terry Hayes too consistent for Phil Chittick and David Lambert.
