Despite dropping the opening match at One Hub Stadium 5-4, Atherton’s Bandits bounced back in the final three matches of the series, to record victory in their home opener of the 2018/19 season.
In game two, the Bandits prevailed 4-1 before Atherton gave the Bandits a solid platform in game three – with the reigning ABL Championship Series MVP tossing five scoreless innings, and only allowing one unearned run, as the hosts won 7-4.
In the fourth and final match, the Bandits held on to win 6-5, in extra plays, despite a late rally by the visitors.
The series win sees the Bandits stay on top of the Australian Baseball League North-East Division, with a 7-4 overall record on the season.
The Bandits will next head to Canberra for an ABL Championship Series rematch in round four, starting on Thursday night – with the Calvary featuring three former Shoalhaven Mariners Jack Middleton, Cam Warner and Kyle Perkins.
