On Sunday, December 2, Mariners under 14s travelling team played Berkeley Eagles at Fred Finch Park, Berkeley. Having had a win last time we played them we were looking to improve on that and bring home another win. With weather conditions not in either team’s favour, they battled the warm weather and dust storm to play out a full four innings, ending with the score Mariners 15, Eagles 7.
The first inning saw Eagles into bat first bringing in 2 safe across home plate. There was some good team work by catcher Mitchell Parrott to Mackenzie Mannix on third base to get the out on a caught stealing. Mariners were into bat next with Mitchell Parrott forcing errors from Eagles and making first base safely. Mackenzie Mannix hit a double base hit out to left field bringing in a run. Cooper Stibbard and Riley Mason both had a single hit to bring a run over each. Mariners managed 5 runs across home plate for the innings.
In the second innings Eagles came out to score 1 across the plate with an impressive double base hit for Ella Manessi. This was Ella’s first safe hit for the season. Some good fielding from Mariners Mason O’Rourke to Riley Mason on first base. Mariners into bat with a quiet innings and only 1 run scored by Will Canaris who, once getting on base, stole his way to slide into home plate.
Third innings saw Eagles player Ethan Reid hit a 3 base hit out to centre outfield being the only safe hit and run scored. Mason O’Rourke started the batting line-up to get on base before making his way around the plates with Mitchell Parrott and Noah Tagliabracci following close behind. Riley Mason then came into bat with a two base hit to right field, bringing in a run. Lochlan Quiney also made it on base to unfortunately forget to slide into home plate to be called out, Mariners scoring 4 safe runs for the third innings.
In the fourth and final innings, Eagles came out with bats on fire to have their best innings of the day, with Ethan Reid hitting a home run off the first pitched ball to bring home all 3 of their scored runs. Eagles put up a fight to the end with their improved skill set keeping us on our toes.
Mariners were into bat next with Cameron Goulden having a safe hit and bringing a run in, Mitchell Parrott having a hit to short stop and Mason O’Rourke having a fantastic three base hit out to right field, bringing in a run, then getting home on a wild pitch from Eagles. Mariners brought 5 home safely.
Pitching duties were shared between Mason O’Rourke pitching 44 pitches, 25 strikes and 4 strike outs. Finishing pitcher for the day was Noah Tagliabracci who pitched 37 pitches, 22 strikes and 5 strike outs.
Catching duties were shared between Mitchell Parrott and Mackenzie Mannix both doing 2 innings each.
Shoalhaven Mariners Seahawks played Stingrays in the weekly Junior Baseball inter-club competition on Friday, November 30. With only half teams for each side taking the field, they had to work harder in the outfield to get their outs.
Some great hits were had by many players but in particular this week it was good to see the girls dominate in the batting box. The score ended in a 5-5 draw.
For Stingrays, Jasna Palmer had 2 single hits out to centre field, James Kallem a single to centre field and Charlaine Palmer had a 2 base hit into centre field.
Seahawks came out slowly in the first inning but regained themselves for the second inning bringing in 5 across the plate, once again girls dominating. Abbie Reid had a single to short stop, Brooke Palmer a single to centre field and Arana Palmer hit a double to short stop.
Pitching for the day was shared between Lochlan Quiney, Mitchell Parrott and Cooper Stibbard. Catching was shared with Riley Mason and Mackenzie Mannix.
T-Ball saw a full side turn up for Stingrays this week, with Dolphins and Seahawks joining forces to play them in a full game. Coach Taylor started to teach the children about throwing the ball to bases to assist in getting outs. Teaching the players step by step how to play the game allows maximum knowledge to be absorbed. Good hits for the day were had by Logan and Sage Drummond.
