“The Shoalhaven Australia Day Awards are great opportunity to celebrate those that are not often recognised by our community and nominations close at the end of this week, “ Cr Findley said.
“Last year Aunty Nell was recognised for her dedications to the Shoalhaven youth and her role in promoting indigenous culture and pride throughout our region.
“Chris Mitchell was recognised for his outstanding devotion to building an inclusive community and improving the lives of people with a disability.
“These people are trailblazers and leaders in our community and by recognising their efforts we encourage like-minded thinking and behaviour.
“It is incredibly exciting to see what next year will bring, especially now that there are two more awards categories to choose from; Outstanding Contribution to Arts and Culture as well as Outstanding Emerging Artist. Our sports, not for profit, volunteer and arts awards remain the same and also deserve acknowledgement.
“These awards ultimately show us how lucky we are living in the Shoalhaven, as it highlights our outstanding community members. It also reminds us who we are and what we stand for as a community.
“Some come on Shoalhaven, get behind these awards and nominate today.”
