Nate, who was part of the Thunder’s team last season, Luke and their side will this week travel to Tasmania for a three game series against the Hobart Hurricanes Indigenous XI.
“I’m thrilled to be playing in the side again,” Nate Jones said.
“Even though I’ve played for the Thunder before, you never really know what to expect when preparing for these matches but seeing the team list, there will be a lot of familiar faces – it will make it easier to prepare when you know how the rest of the team plays.”
The Jones brothers, who both are part of the Eora tribe, and their side will play the Hurricanes twice on Thursday at Latrobe Recreation Ground (9am and 4pm), before a third match on Friday at 12.30pm.
“Representing my heritage, my family and my tribe always means a great deal to me and having my little brother there with me, just makes it that much more special,” Nate said.
“It gives me a chance to really show him how much our culture means to me and how hard we play to make our family proud.”
Joining the Shoalhaven brothers in the side are Tyran Liddiard, Adam Burton, Rohan Davis, Yarran Fair-Townsend, Raymond Steadman, Brendan Smith, Daniel Dellow, James Whiting, Ryan Fenning, Aaron Kelly-Parsons and Marty Jeffrey.
Last season Sydney Thunder’s Indigenous side beat the Hobart Hurricanes in a three game series in Orange and also recorded a six wicket victory over Kenya under 19s.
“In terms of personal goals, playing with my brother in a level of cricket like this has always been a big step for me and hopefully him too,” Nate said.
“It will be great to get him in these pathways early and really grab some well needed experience.”
This week will also mark the first time the Thunder’s women’s Indigenous XI will take to the field, when they play three matches against the Women's Development Squad.
Included in the squad is North Nowra-Cambewarra’s Naomi Woods, who last season help the NSW Indigenous side take out the Imparja Cup.
Woods, who is representing the Kamilaroi mob, is joined in the squad by Hannah Darlington, Julie Muir, Dharmini Chauhan, Anika Learoyd, Jemma Astley, Zoe Fleming, Taylor Ling, Christina Coulson, Mikayla Hinkley, Roxsanne Van-Veen, Dimity Parton and Madison Greenhalgh.
The women’s team will play matches against the Women's Development Squad on Wednesday (3pm), Thursday (12.30pm) and Friday (9am) at the same venue at the men.
