Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemen Men

We actually got in a full week of Bowls. Wednesday saw a grey, overcast sky but no wind giving us perfect conditions for bowling. The last match of the quarterfinals of the Club Minor Pairs was battled out as well as one game of Social Triples and four of Pairs. The few spits of rain on Saturday did not deter our intrepid bowlers. The two matches of the Club Minor Pairs Semi-finals were contested as well as three games of Mixed Social Triples and one of Pairs.
Wednesday 21st November was a damp, overcast day. 26 bowlers braced the Green. Only one Green will be in play for the next 3 months as the Green Keepers do their magic.
Rink 9 saw the only match of our Minor Pairs Championship where Tommy Smith and Peter Smith took the match by the neck and shook it. Roy Cartledge and Ray Solway were in the rumble and put down some outstanding bowls but Tommy and Peter Smith shall be the ones playing in the Semi-Finals by 30 to 19 shots.
Rink 10 In our only game of Social Triples, Steve Hollington, Paul Goddard and Jim Jameison played superb bowls to get home by 19 shots to 14.
Rink 11 The first game of Social Pairs saw David Solomon and Harry Pearce play wonderful bowls to trounce their opposition by 20 to 10 shots.
Rink 12 observed another Pairs game. Tony Mikus and Alessandro Lattanzio were in the zone and rolled some fabulous bowls for a well-earned win by 23 shots to 12.
Rink 13 Alan Morrissey and Michael Edwards combined well to outclass their opponents by 22 to 15 shots.
Rink 14 In our last game of Pairs, Matthew Goddard and John O’Dell were on song and won their game by 24 shots to 17.

Saturday 24th November was a cloudy, wet afternoon with very little breeze. The Green was rolling at a fast pace. Welcome to our visitor Paul Heath, who was one of 29 Bowlers enjoying the afternoon.
Rink 8 witnessed a great game where Mathew Rosina, Neil Miller and David Milne played brilliant bowls to wallop their opposition by 23 to 13 shots.
Rink 9 saw a tight struggle with Les Stuart, Stella Tucker and Richard Grayson having to play inspired bowls to finally win by 18 shots to 15.
Rink 10 In the last game of Mixed Triples, Greg Morphett, Gary Thurston and Alessandro Lattanzio came from behind to just get home by 23 to 18 shots.
Rink 11 Our only game of Social Pairs, Ian Abberley and Michael Edwards played magnificent bowls to overcome their opponents by 22 shots to 16.
Rink 13 the first of our Semi-Final matches of the Club Minor Pairs. What a brilliant match. Tommy and Peter Smith got away to a marvellous start and were up 16/5 at the 10th end before Gary Way and Bert Madge slowly clawed their way back into the match to be down by only 18/20 on the penultimate end. The match was within their grasp! Unfortunately for them, they couldn’t achieve this goal and Tommy Smith and Peter Smith triumphed in a well-deserved win by 22 to 18 shots.
Rink 14 Again a match worthy of a Club Semi-Final. Matthew Goddard and Graham Eyre skipped out to a grand lead only to see Steve Hollington and Tony Mikus catch them up and put them to the sword. A fine finishing flourish saw Steve Hollington and Tony Mikus flung into the Final by 21 shots to 15.

Peter Webb skipped by his wife Shirley took out the 2018 Mixed Pairs Championship 25-14 from the strong pairing of Terry Hayes and Marge Wilkie. Peter and Shirley scored four counters on the first end and then with consistent scoring led throughout the match.
Social play on Wednesday 21st saw three triples matches played. Peter Haddon, Russell Tulloch and Bob Dunn defeated Brian Povey, Barry Dunn and Laurie Watson, then Derek Raymond, Geoff Williams (visitor from Forbes) and Geoff Lidbetter took their match from David Lambert, Peter Webb and Col Good. In the third match Steve Kellett, Rick Attard and Nick Nicholls proved to strong on the day for George Waddell, Tom Froggatt and Phil Chittick. On Saturday 24th the Club was pleased to welcome and play competitive matches against eight visiting members of the Forbes Bowling Club. The four matches of pairs played saw one going to Forbes and the other three to Berry. No doubt the green grass was a bit hard on the Forbes eyes. A social match of triples was played between Berry members with Kate Jenkinson, Derek Raymond and Phil Chittick defeating Bill Chittick, Lindsay McNamara and Ken Chittick by a small margin.
Berry will be playing social matches of a Wednesday and Saturday through the holiday period and visitors are most welcome and requested to book in by noon on day of play by telephoning 0475 768 249.
Culburra Women
A number of our Social ladies braved the gale force winds last Thursday, and although the conditions were very tricky everyone enjoyed the day. For a change of pace, we played consistency pairs and triples. After a few ends, everyone got into a rhythm and had a lot of fun. Winners were Anne Dwyer and Jean Eagleton over Narrelle Wetsteyn and Lorraine Epple, Margaret Gilchrist and Carol Turton over Marea Challender and Annette Barry, and Joy Hanneman, Eliza Gunn and June Jones tied with Ruby Salmon, Julie Cotton and Jenny Castellan.
Two Culburra teams competed in the Bomaderry Major Minor Pairs last week, and although neither team was in the top placings, Lorraine Foster and Marilyn O’Day and Carol Turton and Sandra Annetts had competitive games with overall good results.
