THE 2015 Asian Cup in Sydney may be dim memory for many, but the Shoalhaven District Football Association is counting its good fortune, after securing funding from the Asian Cup Legacy Fund.

The NSW Asian Cup 2015 Legacy Fund is an initiative of the NSW Government, Football NSW and Northern NSW Football and was established with the government’s surplus from the Asian Cup to provide funding assistance to community football clubs, to partner with local stakeholders, to improve the quality, availability and standard of their facilities.
The SDFA is the only organisation to have received a grant from both rounds of the funding.
In round one, $94,000 was allocated and matched by SDFA, seeing the installation of high tech LED floodlighting on the new field at Ison Park.
The installation was completed in July and are now being used during their summer competitions – using 50 per cent less power than the old halogen lights.
“I’m excited to see the new lights in action and am particularly proud to see football leading the Shoalhaven, as the first ground with 21st century lighting technology,” SDFA president Ian Cockburn said.
A second grant from round two was advised recently, with a further $96,000 allocated to upgrade spectator facilities at Ison Park.
The upgrade, hoped to attract premium matches in the future, will enhance seating and shelter and provide quality facilities for spectators.
