William James Tweedie, 43, pleaded guilty to a variety of charges in Nowra Local Court including possessing a prohibited drug, resisting police, riding a bicycle furiously and not wearing an approved helmet.
Court papers said Tweedie was noticed by police pushing a mountain bike near the Shoalhaven City Council administration building in Bridge Road about 9.55pm on August 15.
Police said Tweedie hopped on the bike and started to ride, with officers turning off the road to speak to him about not wearing a helmet.
As police approached, Tweedie began rapidly pedalling, accelerating harshly away towards Bridge Road.
Officers wound down the window of their vehicle and told Tweedie to stop but he ignored them and instead pedalled harder on his bike which didn't have lights, crossing both lanes of Bridge Road without slowing or checking if there were any vehicles coming.
Police said he continued onto the footpath and travelled north towards Scenic Drive
At the corner of Bridge Road and Scenic Drive officers saw him reach into one of his pockets and throw something from the bike.
He was again seen to throw an item from the bike as he entered a dirt road off Scenic Drive towards a water treatment area before dropping the bike and eventually being arrested by police.
Tweedie denied he had thrown anything from the bike when questioned by officers.
While searching Tweedie, officers found a black mobile phone pouch containing a proof of age card, a Commonwealth Bank card, $50 and a small resealable plastic bag containing a crystal like substance.
He told police “a mate had asked him to pick it up in town”.
Testing showed there was about half a gram of methylamphetamine or ice in the bag.
Magistrate Gabriel Fleming fined Tweedie $985 and placed him on a for nine-month community corrections order, allowing him to serve his sentence in the community. She also ordered he accept treatment for drug and alcohol addiction as directed.
