Over the past 26 years the Archer Fishing Club has been travelling to Wyangala Dam to fish for the Cods Head Trophy. We first started fishing against Parkes Diggers but unfortunately their fishing club folded and Wyangala Country Club began fishing in their place.

In November we go to Wyangala and in March they come down here and fish for the saltwater division. Most of our crew arrived on Thursday and returned home on the Monday.
On arrival the weather look great but on Friday night a wild storm erupted. After the wind and rain stopped, Saturday was a nice day. It is closed season for Murray Cod and they had to be released straight away.
In total, the crew landed 28 carp, 16 cod, 1 catfish and 7 yellow belly. At the weigh-in Archer had 7 yellow belly for 6.406kg and Wyangala 7 yellow belly for 4.783kg. Like the Archer they landed plenty of fish but the yellow belly were the only ones accepted by the weighmaster. Archer winners: Ladies Michelle Campbell, 1 yellow belly. Men’s Trevor Morris yellow belly. Biggest Bag P Suitor.
Archer won the Cods Head Trophy and Wyangala Dam won the Carp Trophy for the most carp landed. The Trophy for the Biggest Carp went to Mick Bailey, a Wyangala Dam member.
The highlight of the day was the visitor to Peter and Gail’s campervan – a big brown snake. After getting him back into the bush they discovered their esky full of beverages and a big yellow belly belonging to Masso had gone walkabout. Later on in the night they decided to go fishing and in the bush on the way down was the empty esky. – Tight Lines
