With teams now sorted the players are getting into the rhythm of how the day progresses. There is warming up first to reduce injury then Zooka and Pitch League players head into drills.
There was once again a nice close game between the Stingrays and Seahawks, with Stingrays winning 10-7. New to the pitching mound this week were Lochlan Quiney and Will Canaris who both did well. Some good hits went out to Adam Lonesborough and Tahlia Rogers-Segd.
In T-ball this week, parent and teacher Lewis Wilson stepped up to take on the role of coach for our brand new team ‘Dolphins'. There has been such a great turn out for T-ball this year we have enough players to make 3 teams for the season. Some beautiful hits went out to Charles Meagher and Mitchell Croxford.
On Sunday, November 11, Shoalhaven Mariners Under 14s team travelled to Berkeley to take on Wollongong Cardinals for the first time this season. Mariners put in a good effort but unfortunately went down 16-1.
In the first innings Cardinals got 4 across home plate. There was a wonderful catch made by Saxon Reghenzani-Tate at first base for the out, along with some great pitching from Noah Tagliabracci. Mariners were then up to bat with our first 3 batters all having nice hits. But Cardinals’ fielding was just too good, catching 3 fly balls and not allowing any runs.
The second innings saw some good team work in the field with pitcher Noah Tagliabracci to first base Riley Mason getting Cardinals out twice. There was also a nice catch at second base by Cooper Stibbard. Mariners only let in 3 runs this innings with Cardinals Mitch Wheatley having a great 3 base hit. Up to bat next, Mariners hit the ball although were unable to score any runs with Cardinals quick thinking in the field.
The third innings saw Cardinals bring in 5 across the plate. Matthew Bunder had a great 3 base hit for Cardinals. Mariners were then up to bat. A pitching change saw Timothy Andrews get on base but we were still unable to bring any home this innings.
A pitcher change for the fourth innings saw Cardinals held to nil runs. There was some nice pitching from Saxon Reghenzani-Tate and a great play from Noah Tagliabracci to first base for the out. Up to bat next for Mariners, Mackenzie Mannix made first base and once getting on base stole his way round forcing a Cardinals error to bring him home. It was our only scored run for the day.
The fifth and final innings saw Cardinals bring home 4 players over home plate. There was an exceptional catch taken by Timothy Andrews out in left field to finish out the top of the innings. Mariners in for their last bat of the day, Will White smashed one out to centerfield but again there was perfect fielding from Cardinals and Mariners were unable to bring any runs home.
Pitching duties were shared between Noah Tagliabracci who pitched 47 pitches, 22 strikes and 2 strike outs, Next up to pitch was Mason O'Rourke who pitched 43 pitches and 15 strikes. Third pitcher of the day was Saxon Reghenzani-Tate who pitched 50 pitches, 23 strikes and 3 strike outs and finishing pitcher was Cooper Stibbard who pitched 13 pitches, 5 strikes and 1 strike out.
Catching duties were shared between Mitchell Parrott and Mackenzie Mannix who did a good job.
