The court heard Eric Charles Seymour Jnr, 19, had driven around police while performing a burnout on the Prince Highway in Nowra at the intersection of Plunkett Street in the early hours of October 28.

Police allege Seymour had been driving a Kio Rio sedan in Nowra around 1am which had minutes earlier also been involved in a separate police pursuit.

Court papers said on their way back to the Nowra Police Station officers were stopped facing west at a red traffic light at the intersection of Plunkett Street and the highway when they noticed the vehicle across the intersection.

Police drove towards the vehicle and allege Seymour accelerated harshly, drove around police while performing a burn in the middle of the intersection before travelling west on Plunkett Street.

Police in the car had previously arrested Seymour on other matters and said the drivers’ sides of the cars passed so closely they could clearly identify him, despite him wearing something around his neck in an apparent attempt to hide his face.

Court papers said the vehicle travelled on the wrong side of the road before running a red light at the intersection of Kinghorne Street, at which point officers were ordered to terminate the pursuit.

The vehicle was last seen travelling north on Kinghorne Street.

Police checks revealed the car’s registration had expired in July this year and had been cancelled on October 13, while Seymour was a disqualified driver and was not due to get his licence back until November next year.

Police described his actions as “highly dangerous and reckless” due to the large number of people in the nearby BP Service Station and McDonald’s Restaurant after the recent closing time of licensed premises in the area.

Seymour was arrested by South Coast Police District officers in Bomaderry on Tuesday, November 6 after an appeal went out of the SCPD Facebook page for being wanted on outstanding warrants.

He appeared in Nowra Local Court on Wednesday, November 7 facing charges of police pursuit, driving while disqualified and driving an unregistered vehicle and was refused bail by registrar Craig Cockburn.

He had previously been convicted and fined $300 in his absence on two charges of possessing a prohibited drug after being found by police slumped in the front of a parked car in the Nowra Aquatic Park car park in Scenic Drive, Nowra around 5.15am on August 11.

Police say they had to rouse Seymour and a woman in the vehicle, saying both appeared drug affected.

Police searched the vehicle, finding a quantity of green vegetable matter, testing later confirming it was 4.3 grams of cannabis leaf, and a crystalline substance in a resealable plastic bag, as well as glass pipes and a bong in a black shoulder bag allegedly belonging to Seymour.

He will reappear in court on November 9.
