After making his first grade debut with the Eagles in 2018, as well as playing a key role in steering his under 18s side to an undefeated under 18s Group Seven premiership, Lucas got invited to trial with the Knights on September 26.
“I thought that I performed okay during the trials, not my best performances ever but not my worst either,” Lucas said.
Soon after that trial, the 18-year-old found out he was selected as part of the Knights Jersey Flegg pre-season training squad.
“When I found out I had made the pre-season squad there was a few different emotions running through my head,” he said.
“I was excited about the selection but at the same time nervous because I knew it would mean moving away from my family.”
Since then, the former Illawarra Sports High School student has began training with the Knights – four times a week – to prepare himself for he expects to be the biggest season of his young career.
“Next season, I just want to prove myself and show them my full potential,” he said.
“My main goal for the 2019 season is to start every game in the under 20s competition.”
