The house, located at Carrington Heights South Nowra is due to be completed in 2019 and is set to raise significant funds for Variety the Children’s Charity.
Freedom Homes are built at cost price and sold to the highest bidder, with 100 per cent of the profits being donated to Variety.
G.J. Gardner Homes Shoalhaven director Nathan Fay said his team have battled the elements to get to frame-up stage, and are now ahead of the program of works following commencement on August 30.
“The biggest challenge for any builder is always the weather, despite being in a drought when we went to pour the slab we were surrounded by rain,” he said.
“But with an awesome team on this project we grouped together and got it done when we had a window of good weather.
Mr Fay said the best part of the project was seeing the number of people who had offered to help out and support Variety.
”What makes the project possible is the trades and suppliers who have offered their time, skills and products at extremely low or no cost, which means in the end we can donate more funds to Variety,” he said.
Local carpenter and regular G.J. Gardner Shoalhaven tradie Mick Collison has been involved with the frame-up stage of the project and said this was a project he was happy to support.
“I’ve got a young family at home and when there’s kids in need it really hits home, it’s what drives me to help on projects like this,” he said.
When someone needs a hand it’s good to be able to get the boys together and do what we can to help make someone’s life a bit easier.”
