Local teams the Yuin Black Cockatoos and Rosby Park featured strongly on day one (Thursday) and they both produced powerful efforts.
The local men’s and women’s teams will be out to play their way into the finals which will be held on Saturday.
The players, with Ison Park, South Nowra looking a treat, won’t be complaining about the ground conditions but the heat could be a factor.
Over 400 Indigenous football players from 40 teams are taking part in the championships.
Bernie McLeod has been an influential figure in introducing football across indigenous communities for over 30 years and creating football pathways for male and female indigenous players.
The National Football Championships is a testament to his vision and efforts
“This National Tournament marks a very special milestone in Indigenous Football,” Bernie said.
“The competition brings together men, women and kids from across New South Wales, Queensland, New Zealand, Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory, under the theme ‘Strengthen and Unite as One’.
The men’s and women’s finals will kick off at 2pm on Saturday.
