Emergency services were called to the main wharf at Greenwell Point, off Greenwell Point Road, just after 12.30pm.
The vessel sank in about 20 minutes and was left partially submerged, sitting on the bottom of the Crookhaven River.
Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Shoalhaven and Shellharbour attended the scene, along with a Hazmat team and Rural Fire Service crews from Greenwell Point and Culburra Beach.
After liaising with the trawler owners, it was ascertained that no fuel or effluent were still on board the vessel.
Fire crews utilised the Shoalhaven Marine Rescue vessel, Shoalhaven 30 and with rescue crew volunteers placed booms around the stricken vessel as a precaution.
Roads and Maritime Services [RMS], the Department of Primary Industries [DPI] and the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) were also notified of the incident.
At this stage it is not clear what caused the vessel to sink.
