On Thursday despite the menacing black clouds, the weather was very kind to the 33 ladies who ventured out onto the course for the Annual Pink Day for Breast Cancer. Everyone entered into the spirit of the day wearing a variety of shades of pink outfits to create a resplendent scene across the course. The aim of the Day was to raise funds for Breast Cancer Research and it was a fantastic effort by everyone to raise a total of $800 by the end of the day.
We were happy to have Danny Taylor join us again and he was a welcome sight to all the players at the 18th tee, offering to hit their tee shots (and hopefully miss the dam) for a gold coin donation. Danny was up to the task, launching many a fine shot..
Golf buggies were festooned with balloons, streamers, flags and all manner of pink decoration in the hope of winning the “Best Decorated Buggy” award. Our Judges and special guests Maureen Knaggs and Adeney Ball, took to the course during the morning to inspect the entrants in the Fancy Dress categories. The Best Team was won by Marj Burns, Margaret Ford and Viv Mitchell with Nancye Massingham winning the Best Decorated Buggy.
Two separate competitions were scheduled for the day with the main event being a 3 Ball Best Ball. In addition to this, each team was issued with a pink ball which was to be hit on alternating holes by each of the three team members.
The recent rain, which has been wonderful for the condition of the course, didn’t affect the quality of the scores that were recorded in both events. Winners of the 3BBB were Betty Tucker, Ellen Ryan and Sandra Goddard who came in with 47 points. Sue Davies, Mary Stewart and Gloria Davis were close on their heels to take the second spot with 46 points on a count back from Peta Merchant, Linda Trusler and Jill Levi in third position. The Country Club St George’s Basin Women

We tried a new format last week and the 41 participants were stoked. It was a BAM stableford. Best score on the first six holes, aggregate on the next and multiplier on the final six. Keeping count was a lot of fun. Judi Nethery was under heaps of pressure as the swinger in her group of three. She handled it very well scoring 71 points with Lynn Dunn to win the event. Deb Weeks and Jenny Hartman were second with 70 then Judi scored again to be third with Val Kotlash on 69. Jean O’Brien teamed with Kerry Coulter to have 68 points which put them in 4th place.
NTPs were won by Vicki Critcher, Judy Fishwick and Lynda Roberts. Lynda scored a birdie 2, for a 5 pointer on that hole. Well done to all the winners. Next week we’ll play the postponed medal round. Good luck to our members who are playing in the pro am this week. The course is in fine shape and our volunteers are ready for their busy days.
