Culburra Beach’s Keira Buckpitt showed her knowledge of South Coast beach breaks, nailing a decent 13.67 two-wave heat total in her under 14 girls round one heat.
Buckpitt will face fellow South Coast surfers Bronte Herft and Oceanna Rogers in the second round on Sunday.
Fresh off an injured arm, Lennix Smith (Barrack Point, NSW) showed no signs of weakness in the under 14 boys round two heat, nailing a massive 16.16 two-wave heat total.
Smith dominated in the shifty peaks, laying down an array of impressive turns and snaps to post the score and cement his spot into Sunday’s quarter-finals.
After taking out event two on the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Series and finishing in the runner-up position in event three at Coffs Harbour, Nate Hopkins (Noraville, NSW) showed he was eager to get another finals appearance under his belt, posting a respectable 13.17 two-wave heat total in his opening under 14 boys exchange.
Hopkins will face Smith, Kalan Orchard and Archie Mandin in Sunday’’s quarter-finals.
Fresh off his hat-trick of victories in the first three events on the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Series, Fletcher Kelleher (Freshwater, NSW) showed he was eager for four wins, nailing his two opening heats in the under 12 boys.
Kelleher will make his next appearance in the semi-finals on Sunday.
