The 50-over Under 19s State Challenge was the final selection trial for the NSW Metro and ACT/NSW Country teams to compete at the national titles in South Australia during December.
Four teams competed during the carnival from 2-4 October – two teams from Metropolitan NSW and ACT/NSW Country represented each of the Sydney Thunder and Sixers Big Bash League franchises.
After the third and final day was abandoned due to wet weather, the Metro Sixers named the best performed team, after winning both of their matches.
During his two matches for the NSW Country Sixers, Phillips first scored 79 runs and took 2/39 in his sides win against NSW Metro Thunder, before being dismissed for a duck against NSW Metro Sixers, while also taking 2/51 with the ball.
Final squads for both NSW Metro and ACT/NSW Country will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
