Wednesday 3rd October was an overcast, dizzily day. The well prepared Greens were playing at a medium speed. Rink 2 saw the first close game of the day, when Steve Hollington, Adrian Davidson and Alan Morrissey play marvellous bowls to come from behind and win on the last end by 22 shots to 21. Rink 4 witnessed the Semi-Final of The Club Major/Minor Pairs Championship for 2018. Rink 11 witnessed the game of the week. Tommy Smith and Rob Turner started like a shot out of a gun. On the second end, a superlative seven had them well into the lead and by the 5th end were 13 to nil up. Then started the longest recovery of all time as Roy Cartledge and Trevor Wright dragged themselves out of their coma and back to the game. End by slow end they fought back. A fabulous three here and there saw them at 6 to 16 on the 10th end. Tommy and Rob responded the best way possible by winning 2 ends by 4 shots to be home and hosed, you would think, with 24 shots to 11 by the 14th end. Roy and Trevor would not be denied and played the best bowls of their long lives. The penultimate end saw them take the lead for the first time in the game when they won it by 3 shots to go 25 to 24 up. Could Tommy and Rob recover their confidence to win the last end by 2 shots? No, they won the last end by 1 shot to draw the game at 25 all. Who would win the count back? It was close! Roy Cartledge and Trevor Wright won the game by 11 ends to 10. What a comeback! Rink 12 In the 3rd draw of the day, Alan Liebert and Graham Eyre won over Max Stevens and Dave Milne by the barest of margins at 16 all and 11 ends to 10.
