One hundred and seventy five episodes mean at least 175 topics, some of the topics have been repeated because the information is important or topical.
Scams have had their fair share of mentions and it seems like they will continue to be mentioned until we all see them for what they are. The Fingers’ dictionary describes a scam as;
SCAM: “A way of obtaining cash from an innocent party by an unscrupulous person using a method that is sinister in its deceptiveness. A scam gives the scammer the ability to commit a crime, turn an innocent person’s life into a hot steaming pile of grief with the possibility that the crime will go unpunished due to the scams complexity and the victims naivety coupled with the fact that the scammer may well be in another country.”
I would love to write an episode of “On The Beat” with the heading - “No scams this week, public cannot be fooled”.
Unfortunately, now is not that time. However, we can work towards this by remembering the following:
- *Never give out your banking details to anyone over the phone.
- *Never give anyone remote access to your computer.
- *If it sounds or feels suspicious then it is suspicious.
- *Do not give your pin number to anyone ever.
- *Do not give your pin number to anyone ever.
- *Do not give your pin number to anyone ever.
- The best defence against phone scammers is to HANG UP!
Also remember that you can Dob in a Druggie any time you like by contacting Nowra Police or ringing Crime Stoppers. Do not Drink and Drive. As always, in case of emergency, call (000). Non emergencies contact Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or your local Police to provide anonymous information call crime stoppers on 1800 333 000. Domestic and Family Violence Info visit www.police.nsw.gov.au.
Don’t forget. Cops are tops.
