September 23 will go down as a day to remember for Illaroo FC. This is the day that our girls mixed it with one of the state’s best club sides, Sydney-based Dunbar Rovers, who are graced with ex-professionals from Chelsea and Manchester City!

The game kicked off on time with Illaroo working hard to stay close to their illustrious opponents. Despite our best efforts Dunbar went into a two-goal lead. But we fought back, pressing hard and having a share of the play. Illaroo had shots and headers on target, winning corners and showing the city slickers that country girls can play.
Halftime brought a welcome break from running on energy-sapping astro turf. Fluids taken on board and a chatter of positivity was testament to our girls’ commitment and determination.
The second half was similar to the first but the high energy levels required to compete eventually took its toll. Dunbar ran in a further four goals, all of which were worthy of winning any game.
The journey home was fun, cheerful and entertaining. The pride the coaches, committee and supporters have in our team can not be fully explained in these few words. You were all brilliant, thank you everyone.
