He needed something to launch his career and give him confidence. So, he decided to join Toastmasters.
The aim of Toastmasters is to encourage better listening, better thinking and better speaking.
When people first join Toastmasters, they are paired with a mentor, who encourages them to speak in public.
John’s passion for the organisation has been reborn and he is hoping to start a club in the Bay and Basin area.
“There are clubs in Nowra but there are no clubs in the Bay and basin area,” John said.
“As this area grows, I can see a basic need for the area to be given the opportunity to speak out not just on their lives, but areas that will promote this area and its people.”
A Toastmasters demonstration will be hosted at the Vincentia Golf Club on October at 6.30pm.
“You can watch, be entertained, get a laugh watching people unashamedly speak and enjoy the moment instead of fearing the occasion,” John said.
There is no charge involved and all are welcome.
The objective of the meeting is to form a club in the Bay and Basin area, and a follow up meeting will be on November 13.
