Mr Wiriyasantilekun, a chef at a Nowra restaurant, was walking through Jelly Bean Park about 10pm on Monday night when a teenage male approached him and asked him for a cigarette.
He told the teen, described as being tall, slim and about 18-years-old, he did not have any and continued to walk to Woolworths.
After making a small purchase, he started walking back to work through Egans Lane.
During the short walk, four teenage boys grabbed him from behind, holding his arms behind his back and forcing him into a headlock position.
“I was very scared,” Mr Wiriyasantilekun said.
“I think they watched me in Woolworths to see where I put my money.”
The teens stole $400 from his pockets before pushing him to the ground and running off.
“My arm is hurt,” Mr Wiriyasantilekun said.
It’s an awful welcome to Nowra for Mr Wiriyasantilekun, who just moved to the region two weeks ago.
“I only started working here last Monday, [September 17],” he said.
“I hope they [the thieves] can be caught.”
Mr Wiriyasantilekun has reported the incident to police. Anyone with information should contact Nowra Police Station at 4421 9699.
