The 48-year-old, who has more than 200 medals to her name in her career, and her Australia team mates Kate Seibold and Joanna Bailey claimed the silver medal in the 8km cross country final – a course that saw six different teams hospitalised during the championships.
Suffolk clocked a time of 35:27, which along with team mates Seibold (31:29) and Bailey (35:27), saw their team finish with a time of 1:41:47 – just nine minutes behind winners Spain (1:32:30).
The victorious Spain team had nine runners in their team but only the top three times – Carmen Inmaculada Valle Atienza (30:22), Zhor El Amrani (30:57) and Maria Jose De Toro Saiz (31:11) – counted.
Rounding out the podium was the Czech Republic team of Renata Hajkova (33:26), Renata Prokopova (37:44) and Jarmila Slavickova (37:50) – who secured bronze with an overall time of 1:49:00.
