The 12-year-old’s sport of choice is discus – an event he has only been interested for 12 months.
“Max first showed an interest in discus last year, after he won his school event and making it to district,” Max’s mother Leesa said.
“But unfortunately he didn’t place, but this only made Max from determined to come back stronger.
“So he started at Shoalhaven Little Athletics as well as his own personal training for discus – which he does twice a week.
“He improved very quickly, placing in zone and regional for the athletics club.”
The proof is in the pudding, as Beck started out throwing about 15m and now is at the 30m mark, seeing him shine at a number of recent school carnivals.
“Max won both his school and district discus competition, seeing him make it to regional in Canberra for the first time,” Leesa said.
“In Canberra, he placed in the top three, seeing him qualify for the 2018 NSW PSSA State Championships at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush.”
Making it even moire special, Beck has now entered the records books as the first Callala Public student to reach the state athletics title.
“This is a huge achievement and I’m so happy and proud all that hard work has paid off,” Max said.
“I have set a goal to place in the top eight at state.
“Then further down the line, one of my future goals is to represent Australia.”
