Mandy Nolan and Ellen Briggs are the superstars behind touring comedy show Women Like Us.
The self-described overworked and overweight duo discuss everything from housework, love, big undies, disappointment and resentment to dealing with teenage angst, and next month, they’re coming to the Shoalhaven.
The pair were originally solo comics, but combined forces to create a two hour show jam-packed with rapid fire stand-up.
But the show is about more than just comedy according to Mandy, “it’s a mission”.
“Our mission was to create a show that made women feel good about themselves,” she said.
“We’re building a movement of strong body positive women who are sick of the bullshit, and who want to see their lives and their stories in the comedy that they laugh at.”
Ellen said while the show was titled Women Like Us, it wasn’t just for females.
“It’s not a show just for women,” she said. “In the same way a comedy show by two men would never be seen as a bloke’s only show. Women Like Us is about making our experiences universal rather than ‘niche’.
“And as it turns out, there are a lot more women like us out there then we ever realised. There’s even a growing tribe of men like us too.”
Both Ellen and Mandy are in demand as solo comics, however they both agreed that the magic happened when they were on stage together.
The pair released a book, Women Like Us, earlier this year and are now working on both a webseries and podcast.
As both women are from the country, Mullimbimby and Northern NSW, they enjoying touring regional areas as well as cities.
Women Like Us will hit Nowra on Saturday, October 6 at the Bomaderry Bowling Club.
Tickets are $35 and are available at www.womenlikeus.com.au.
