The Heads women’s golf club held their charity day in support of the Shoalhaven Parkinson’s nurses on Tuesday 4 September 2018. Once again, everyone enjoyed the day both on the course and during lunch in the club house. The game was Irish Four Ball and the team of Greg Montgomery, Col Parrish, Connie Parrish and Brian Rowe (shown in the photo below) took out first prize. See the results section above for more information.
There were many prizes won during the day. The women’s golf club thank the Heads Hotel and those members who sponsored many of the prizes.
Since the charity day was postponed in June due to the inclement weather, the number of players booked for the September game were low compared with previous years. In order to make the event successful and worthwhile, the Women’s Committee decided to open the competition to men this year. The Women’s golf club thank the men for participating and making it such a fun and successful day.
The Country Club St. George’s Basin Women
The first spring day’s golf saw 38 women play a stableford round. Threatening weather held off long enough for some good scores to be recorded. The newly renovated greens were a challenge for some but not Julie Atlee whose 43 points gave her a clear win in division 1 from Jenny Noden on 40 and Judi Nethery, 39.
In division 2 Jill Bussell won with 42 from Trish, the new grandma, on 37, and Myra Kara, 36.
Yvonne Potts showed the golden oldies can do it by winning division 3 with 39 points from the jet lagged Kerry Coulter, 35. Jean O’Brien was next with 34.
Congratulations to all those high scoring competitors, it wasn’t easy out there.
Drive and pitch on the 15 th hole revealed some very accurate shots. Julie Atlee, Dell Buckley and Yvonne Potts won their respective divisions.
Next week is a club medal round and you have the choice of playing stroke or stableford. The WGI district tournament will be played at Port Kembla towards the end of September. It’s a challenging course but you’ll receive one or two more handicap shots to help. There is the choice there also of playing stableford. Even if you haven’t entered yet, I’m sure you could be accommodated.
WWPSWC
A very overcast day with a threat of rain, saw 10 of our members turn up to play a stableford event, at the Sussex Course.
The winner of today’s game with a score of 20 points was the bloke from the Windy City in the land of the Long White Cloud, we call him Kiwi. It was pleasant to see him in a new pair of black shorts, we thought he may have bought a couple of new pairs to save him doing the washing, while his wife is away in NZ. Next was the Boy Wonder reaching some form after his holiday, he had 17 points. Third was Craggy with 16 points, he also won the raffle prize today.
Then was the hotly contested prize of a Mars Bar and this was won by Haggis, having the lowest number of points for the game, which happened to be an unbelievable 3 points.
We don’t usually publish the number of points in this position, but there was so many members trying to win this confectionery, that we thought they should be made aware of what they were up against. Drive and pitch on the 9th was won by Weet Bix. BB won the nearest the pin on the 7th.
We had our usual bacon and egg rolls cooked to perfection by Skeeter and Kiwi, there was only one complaint and that was made by President Scrooge that when he bit in to his roll, the egg was a bit runny and went all over the leg of his trousers meaning they will have to be washed by the end of this month.
A popular decision was made to change one date on our current golf program and that was for the game at Sussex in December programmed for 22/12/18 and that game will now be played at Vincentia on that date.
This change was made because of the traffic that usually happens this time of the year. Next week’s game is at the Country Club, please hit off by 7.45am. We will also be playing another round of our Annual Eclectic.
