South Coast MP Shelley Hancock presented $188,613 to the Nowra Show Society and Shoalhaven City Council on Monday, to upgrade power boards across the facility and install new lighting on the added area.
“It’s a real bonus and an upgrade that’s sadly been missing out for a long time,” Ms Hancock said.
“Major events at the showground such as the Nowra Show and NAIDOC Week as well as the Dog and Cricket clubs will benefit from improved lighting and safer and easier access to power.”
Nowra Show Society spokesperson Wendy Woodward said the funding was very welcome.
“The showground hasn’t had major money put into it for 30 years, and we are really looking forward to seeing this funding put into action,” she said.
“Users and visitors to the Nowra Showground will see an instant improvement to the amenity of the facility and ease of use once this upgrade is complete.”
Under the upgrade, Australian standard floodlights will be installed and the oval’s power supply will be reconfigured to ensure the most optimum and safest use of the facility.
The reconfiguration of the power supply will redirect power away from the oval’s current centre pits and be relocated to floodlighting poles on the sidelines. This will provide users of the oval a permanent power option, rather than being required to install temporary power boxes.
