Good luck to Helen Neilsen, Marilyn O'Day & Eileen Hunter who are playing state finals in Pairs & Triples at Taren Point Bowling Club over the next 2 weeks. All members of Culburra Beach Men's bowls wish you well in those competitions.

Sunday 12th was like a wonderful spring day after so much cold weather. The blustery breeze made all bowlers concentrate, to achieve their best. With the visit from Oak Flats Bowling Club we saw 70 eager players battling for the upper hand. Raffles prizes were drawn and winnings presented over a relaxing drink after a superb lunch of ham and salad finished with delicious cheese cake. Sunday 26th saw the showers clear just long enough for 28 intrepid bowlers to enjoy a morning of Lawn Bowls. Only one Green was needed for the games and it was slow due to the recent rain. Some very skilled play was observed and all players enjoyed the competition. Thursday 30th witnessed Graham Mills make a donation to the Red Cross Drought Relief Fund on behalf of our Club. Spring is here and the September winds have stayed with us. Wednesday saw 32 players enjoying a clear, cool day with a chilly, light breeze. This resulted in five games of Nominated Pairs and one of Social Triples. Saturday was a clear day with strong, swirling winds that made accurate bowling difficult. 28 intrepid players competed in the 2nd Semi-Final of the Club Triples Championship, the 1st Round of the Major/ Minor Pairs Championship, one game of Mixed Triples and three games of Mixed Pairs. It was great to see Les Stuart and Trevor Politch back on the green.
Wednesday 29th August was a clear, cool day with the green rolling at a medium pace. Rink 8 observed John Mac and Allan Furniss devastate their opposition by a large margin. Rink 9 saw Gary Thurston and Peter Smith playing immaculate bowls to just get home by 20 shots to 16. Rink 10 Roy Cartledge and Trevor Wright proved to be far too good for their opposition and won by 19 to 13 shots. Saturday 1st September had strong; gusty winds making the green slow from one end and lightning fast from the other. Both greens had been well prepared. Rink 3 enjoyed the Semi-Final of the Club Triples Championship. Tommy Smith, Alan Rose and Tim McCormack managed the gusty conditions with great concentration to finally come out on top of Stephen Hollington, John Edwards and Harry (1 shot) Pearce by 26 shots to 19. Rink 5 held the 1st match of the Club Major/Minor Pairs Championship and this was the match of the week. Graham Eyre and John O’Dell burst into the match by winning the first 3 ends to lead by 5/nil. Bazza Waters and Phill Rimmer then came to terms with the wind and managed to draw level at 5 all on the 7th end. A fantastic 3 on the 10th end had them well into the lead at 9 to 6 shots but Graham and John pulled of what should have been a match winning score to win the 12th end by 6 shots and take the lead by 14 shot to 9. Bazza and Phill would not go away and another fantastic 3 saw them draw closer followed by a terrific 2 to have the scores even on 15 all at the 16th end. They were in the groove and a fabulous 4 on the 18th end saw them well placed to win. Graham and John then replied with a fantastic 3 of their own to keep them in the match but consistently great bowling from Bazza Waters and Phill Rimmer saw them finally take the match by 22 shots to 19. All had played excellent bowls considering the woeful conditions they had to contend with. Rink 9 Max Stevens, Gary Way and Jim Jamieson were just too experienced and won their game by a large margin. Rink 10 In a closer game, Paul Goddard and Peter Smith played immaculate bowls to win by 21 to 14 shots. Rink 11 In another great game, Ian Abberley and Alessandro Lattanzio handled the conditions superbly to win by 21 shot to 12.
