The Rise for Climate events will take place on September 8, to illustrate the achievements of renewable energy and the benefits of a 100 per cent renewable energy future.
Shoalhaven organiser Bonnie Cassan said everyone in the Shoalhaven was invited to take part in the global event.
“We will have guest speakers talking about the urgency of transitioning immediately to 100 per cent renewable sustainable energy,” she said.
“[We will also] call on both the Australian Labor Party and Liberal National Party to make the urgent and quick phase out of fossil fuels their top priority if they wish to lead Australia for the next four years.”
Rise for Climate will happen in every capital city as well as Cairns, Yeppoon, Wee Jasper, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Bendigo, Moruya, Cooktown, Rockhampton, Port Macquarie, Broome and LaTrobe
The global Rise for Climate movement is being supported by environmental groups, charities, unions, universities, local governments, churches and businesses, and aims to “send a clear message to governments on all levels that we want urgent action on climate change.”
The event will begin at 10.30am on Saturday, September 8 at Hanging Rock Lookout, Nowra Showground. The rally will be followed by a ‘peaceful picnic protest’ and discussion.
