Mariners 2nd Grade Minors hosted The Northern Pirates at Ison Park on Sunday.
Pirates started strong with the bats in the first inning bringing in 3 runs rattling our young pitcher Nicholas Fisher. Mariners hit the ball well in the first inning but with the Pirates outfield doing a great job catching everything, not allowing Mariners to score runs.
In the second inning Nicholas Fisher reset himself on the pitching mound getting Pirates first three batters out with two of those being strikeouts.
In the third inning Pirates squeezed another run across the plate. Mariners matched that with some good base running from Austin Raymond.
The fourth inning saw a change of pitchers for Mariners bringing Austin Raymond to the mound. Austin started strong not allowing Pirates to trouble the scorers. In the bottom of the fourth, hits from Dalton Haines and Andrew Pearson brought 3 runs across the plate tying up the game.
In the top of the fifth inning Pirates smashed a couple of multiple base hits. They started to get a roll on but a great double play from Brian Cremin, Leith Grant and Stuart Raymond closed out that inning, only allowing Pirates to score 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Mariners bats fired bringing in five runs taking the lead.
Top of the sixth inning and Austin Raymond shut the Pirates batters down, not allowing any runs to score. Mariners didn’t have to bat again, Mariners taking the win 9/6.
Mariners pitchers Nicholas Fisher pitching 52 pitches, 25 strikes, 4 strikeouts and Austin Raymond 42 pitches, 22 strikes and 2 strikeouts.
Hits went to Singles Dalton Haines (2), Brian Cremin, Austin Raymond, Jordon Butfield, Stuart Raymond, Leith Grant and Andrew Pearson.
This was the last game of the regular season, Mariners taking the minor premiership. Now looking forward to the finals.
Shoalhaven Mariners 3rd Grade Minors played The Northern Pirates at home on Sunday. Mariners waited for the last game of the season to have their best game.
Mariners starting pitcher Tausia Antonio had an outstanding game on the mound only giving up 2 hit in 3 innings. Supporting Tausia in the field was the team that only allowed 2 errors for the whole game.
The Mariners batters worked from the word go smashing the ball all around the park, from whichever pitcher Pirates put on the mound.
This win was a great team effort with every player getting at least one hit. Mariners walking away with the win 17/0.
Unfortunately this team didn’t make the finals but the improvement of this team from the start of the season to the end of the season has been unbelievable.
Mariners Tausia Antonio pitched 39 pitches, 28 strikes, 2 strikeouts; Daniel List pitched 27 pitches, 16 strikes, 2 strikeouts and new to the mound Ben Quiney pitched 8 pitches, 5 strikes. Stand out performance on the field went to Colin Barnes.
